Officers investigating a number of shoplifting offences in Portsmouth have charged a man.

Jay Johnathan Steven Marsh, 29, of Hudson Road, Southsea, has been charged with 12 counts of theft from a shop and two of assault on an emergency worker.

These relate to six thefts from Co-op in Twyford Avenue, four from the Co-op in Francis Avenue, one from the C-op store at The Hard, and one from the Tesco Express in London Road.

Each of the offences occurred between September 2 and September 23, this year.

The two assaults occurred in Burrfields Road on September 27.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court today (September 28).

The charge is part of Operation Monster, an operation focussed on working together with local stores to target shoplifting in the city.
