The Chairman said: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, and on behalf of communities across Dover District, can I express our great sorrow, and our deepest sympathies to Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family.
“Communities across the the district will be deeply saddened by this news.
“At the same time, The Duke of Edinburgh will be warmly remembered for his close association with the District, including his visits to the Royal Marines at Deal and officially opening Deal Pier in 1957. He also touched the lives of generations of young people in the District through the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme.
“We are flying flags at half mast at Council buildings across the district, and our thoughts and prayers are with Her Majesty and the Royal Family at this sad time.”
